RSS Feeds, how they work and what they are for

To understand how the RSS Feeds work we must first know the meaning of the sentence in English: literally the meaning of the word feed in Italian is nourishment, but in cybernational jargon it means hungry.

For what? Content and information on the web. Every day we try to find a huge amount of information on the web; with RSS Feeds instead of hunting for news to feed ourselves RSS do this for us: the news we are really interested in can be uploaded in an ad hoc software through an orange icon containing the letters RSS, on blogs or in online newspapers. Clicking on it and following the instructions of the subscription you can receive updates on the latest news published in the chosen site, thus saving time and energy. With the RSS Feeds you automatically create lists of links that are read through these programs to enter new articles called Feed Readers or RSS aggregators; the same have similar characteristics to those used to receive email, where, once the program is started, instead of emails, the news lists created by the previously loaded RSS Feeds will be read.

The choice of this software will be made in function the type of computer owned, its operating system and the browser used. Instead of going from time to time to a specific site to see what's new, it will be the RSS aggregator to connect and, if there is a new content, will produce a list of updates. Actually, on the RSS aggregator you can have the news appearing on the various sites of interest through their respective RSS Feeds, so we can visit the site only if the information really interests us. RSS Feeds are a powerful way to receive updates, however if a site is no longer interesting, it is sufficient to delete its RSS from the Feed Reader and consequently suspend the reception of news.
